Welcome to the recap series on Scott Galloway’s “The Algebra of Wealth” book. This is a series of blog posts focused on the bullet points provided at the end of each chapter.
My goal here is to get people straight to the point on what lies underneath Scott’s formula but, as always, this list is purely a summary — not all the meat available in the book. This is algebra of wealth for people in a hurry :)
- Direct your attention, time, and energy consciously
- Economic security requires sustained focus on the most productive opportunities
- Accept the necessity of hard work
- Don’t follow your passion, follow your talent
- Take the time to ascertain your talent
- Focus on mastery, passion will follow
- Iterate constantly, take chances, try new things
- Market dynamics trump individual performance so give yourself the best chance by going where opportunities are the greatest
- Nurture your communication skills
- Make career choices based on culture and skills
- Work with people who can get the best of you
- Look beyond the obvious careers: don’t discount the Main Street Economy and follow your talent
- Get to a city, go to the office
- Know when to quit: persistence is a virtue until it becomes a suicide pact
- Be loyal to people, not companies
- Prune your hobbies: let go of hobbies that no longer suit you
