Here’s what content creators, authors, and podcast hosts have taught me as mentors. I have never met them and probably never will, but they have taught me so much I must consider them mentors.

Gary Vee

Success and/or wins are but a fleeting moment. 99.99% of the journey is the process to get there, success is only that moment when you hear the “yes”, get the passing grade, or receive the job offer.

Aim to be historically correct, not win this discussion. Don’t lose yourself to emotions in the now. Expand your time horizon and focus on your long-term success.

Self-awareness. Know yourself deeply and zero in on what makes you yourself.

Quote that stuck with me

The person who holds their breath the longest wins.

Jordan Peterson

Clean up your room before you think of helping other people, much less changing the world.

Say the truth, or at least don’t lie.

Face the difficult conversations now or sit back and let them explode in your face later.

Dream about what you could become. Reverse engineer that vision into concrete actions and start moving.

Quote that stuck with me

God only knows what your upper limit is

Andrew Huberman

You can screw up in your early years and still make something great of yourself later in life. But you have to make and stick with hard choices.

Quote that stuck with me

Thank you for your interest in science.

Tony Robbins

No one knows how to beat the financial market. The market is too distributed for someone to have sufficient information at any point in time to know if it’s the right time to buy or sell. As the old saying goes, time in the market beats timing the market.

Invest responsibly. Balance how much risk you’re exposed to with more humble but secure investments. If you’re putting money in stocks, a much riskier return on investment, then balance it out by investing in stable avenues such as bonds.

Put concrete numbers against your dreams. Don’t just aim for a secure retirement – actually do the math to get a concrete number on how much that security costs.

Quote that stuck with me

Where focus goes, energy flows

Scott Gallaway

Don’t follow your passion. Follow what you are good at. Passion will come with excellence.

Get to a big city, go to the office. Even if as a small fish, choose to be in a big pond. This will increase the likelihood of getting involved with bigger opportunities. When in the big pond, build relationships with people in there to get those opportunities.

Financial security pays dividends everyday of your life.

Quote that stuck with me

Get to a big city, go to the office

Alex Hormozi

Work hard. Once you have enough reps then you can create leverage to work smart. You can’t work smart without even knowing what work looks like.

Don’t leave with half a*sed results. Leave when you have finished the work well.

Uphold the gold standard you want others to follow.

Focus on your inputs. Other people will judge your outputs.

Break down big words into small manageable subskills. Don’t tell someone to be more charismatic. Tell them to smile during conversations, to greet people when entering a room, speak loud enough to be heard, and so on.

Choose: be under-lived by 30 or under-skilled by 30. You need to spend the time either collecting experiences or skills if you want to go deep into either.

Quote that stuck with me

If you can shift from “this is hard” to “no one else will be able to do this” then it flips from it being this thing of “oh poor me” to “oh poor everyone who is going to have to f*cking try”

Chris Williamson

Don’t just do things well. Also have an eye for the aesthetics. This is why Chris goes to great lengths when choosing the setting for each podcast episode. It’s not just about the audio experience. It’s also the visual experience for video watchers and for the person sitting across from him for those two hours.

Don’t disregard what interested you early in life. What made you weird as a child might be what makes you excellent as an adult.

Quote that stuck with me

Once you learn how to do something then you’re accountable for not doing it right

Chris Voss

Never split the difference: no deal is better than a bad deal.

Apply tactical empathy in every day life: mirroring, labeling, calibrated questions. Improve your emotional intelligence (EQ) to build deeper relationships.

Don’t use emotional intelligence to manipulate others for your own benefit. Use it to drive collaborative solutions and help people open up.

Quote that stuck with me

You don’t rise to the occasion. You fall to your highest level of preparation

Simon Sinek

Be optimistic.

Be a reliable friend.

Find your why. If you don’t know why you’re getting out bed then it will cost you that much more.

Don’t try to get the whole room’s buy in right out of the gate. Focus on the excited early adopters. Don’t make it easy for people to get onboard, that’s how you know those who show up really care about it. Prove your success over time and steadily buy in the rest of the audience.

There are finite and infinite games. Sports are finite games with a defined begin and end. There are clear winners and losers. Infinite games are perpetuated over time by all participants — namely, life. No one is declared the winner of these games. People come in and out, but it’s our job while in the game to make it continue.

Quote that stuck with me

Life is an infinite game.

Dan Martell

The person who needs nothing can’t be controlled. Detach from goals and other people. Don’t create opportunities for others to control your emotions, your happiness, or your life.

You can’t shoot a cannon from a canoe. Build your foundations first.

Quote that stuck with me

The person who needs nothing can’t be controlled

Robert Greene

Work hard to secure your reputation and never let go of it.

Reconnect with your child self. remember what was your original interest and pursue it

Quote that stuck with me

Those are signs deep within from your core, from your soul: this is who you are. And if you lose that, not only are you not going to be successful in life you will also lose yourself. You will be unhappy. You will be alienated from who you are.

David Goggins

Stay hard in the face of adversity. Don’t let outside conditions affect your results, persevere in your mind and execute.

Materialise potential. Not easy, will include saying no to other people, but find yourself and materialise your potential.

Quote that stuck with me

I don’t live off that hope factor.
